As Brian Ahston gets his old job back, should Rob Andrew lose his?

P_ashton0704So Grandpa Ashton is set to retain his post as England gaffer, following a review of the team's performance at the World Cup. That's great news for English rugby, as the 109 year old coach did a sterling job at the World Cup, no matter what Mike Catt will try to tell you whilst begging (literally begging) you to buy his book.

It is however also terrible news for English rugby - it highlights just what a mess the English game is at the top. What on earth has been the point of all this flapping around / insecurity over Gramps Ashton's job? It has been embarrassing, and maybe Rob Andrew should take a look at exactly what he does for English rugby.

Ashton has made it clear from the off that he wants to take England into the 2011 World Cup in New Zealand. But the RFU are thought to be wary of the financial implications involved in a long-term deal having paid an estimated £500,000 in compo to Andy Robinson. But at least we seem to be coming to an end of this mess now. Hopefully everyone will know exactly what they're doing by England's Six Nations opener against Wales at Twickenham on February 2.
