Andy Farrell To Make Debut This Saturday?
Saracen's former League man Andy Farrell has been named in a provisional squad for Sunday's Game against the Newcastle Falcons. With one hell of a preamble (I make it eighteen months and counting) it seems Farrell is about to take his first steps as a senior Rugby Union player, albeit from the bench. Farrell came through 65 minutes of Guinness A League Rugby on Monday, scoring a try against Harlequins and showing signs that he will be a useful chap to have around. The biggest concern from the Quins game, and it's a weighty one for a blind-side flanker, was some apparent weakness at defensive scrums. If that is corrected quickly, Saracens definitely have themselves a player.
As a double winner of the Man of Steel award - the highest accolade to which a league player can aspire - Farrell has faced plenty of challenges. Eighteen months out injured is another challenge, and I'd back him to face this one down as well.
